For you to succeed in any sport you need to familiarize yourself with the basics or fundamentals of that sport. Body building just like any other sport also has its basics and therefore this article will try to shed some light on one of the basics in bodybuilding.

In body building there are two nutrients that you just can’t do without, this are proteins and carbohydrates. Proteins are the building blocks of muscles and are very crucial when it comes to repairing the broken down or worn out tissues.

This article will shed some light on the importance of carbohydrates and how it helps during body building. First of all carbohydrates are very important because they are the primary source of energy for the body. Carbohydrates can further be classified according to two criteria. The first criteria are known as the simple carbohydrates and the second criteria are known as the complex carbohydrates. When we look at the complex cabs they derive there name due to the fact that they take the body a longer time to digest and even after digestion the body’s blood sugar level will increase slightly. These criteria of carbs are the best when it comes to fueling your body.

When we look at the simple carbs, there use should be restricted to 1-2 hours which are preceding your workout. The reasoning behind this is because when the simple carbohydrates are ingested in the body they affect the blood sugar level by increasing them drastically. This effect however is also lowered at the same rate. The resulting effect is that your body will be left feeling as if it has been deprived of energy .The other effect is that there will be an immediate increase in the levels of insulin which will have an effect of converting simple carbs into fats. This process of conversion is so fast that it even begins before the carbs have left the liver. Therefore eating the simple carbs will have a resultant effect of inducing the wrong hormones. The resultant effect will lead to storage of more fat which is detrimental to a bodybuilder’s progress.

During the time period of 1-2 hours preceding a workout session the body of the body builder will respond greatly to the consumption of simple carbs. The consumption of the simple carbs will trigger the body to respond naturally by releasing insulin which will in turn help the muscles to rejuvenate there glycogen levels.

This will also be followed by a feeling of relief from the training session. If you want to effectively replenish the glycogen stocks which have been depleted you need to take advantage of the 1-2 hour time span which precede the work out as it is the most optimum. A lot of research has been conducted on this theory and the results from all the studies support the preposition that it is at this point that replenishment of the depleted glycogen stock takes place.
