They have told you that saturated fats are an enemy to health. They have told you that your diet should avoid all, all, saturated fats at any costs. They have told you that eating saturated fats is inviting heart problems. They have told you that saturated fats if incorporated in the bodybuilding diet, will delimit progress in you muscle accumulation venture. They have heaped lie up on lie on all health literature you read. You have listened to them. You are scared stiff by saturated fats. You regard saturated fats as the enemy. And thus you are prompt to blame that marginal intake of saturated fats for any health problem you have, especially that concerned with weight and body fat content.

If there ever was propaganda, this is the worst of them. If there ever was a lie traded for billions of dollars, then this is the highest ranking. If there was ever a lie so far from truth, then this is the first. If ever there was misinformation, then this is the grandfather of all misinformation. Saturated fats are not as bad as reputed. They are not nearly as dangerous as they have been painted by the media, health and bodybuilding literature included. Saturated fats have been an innocent scapegoat for so long that it is time to set the record straight.

The fact is, saturated fats if incorporated in the body builder’s diet does not and cannot increase the LDL (bad cholesterol) in your system. Saturated fats actually increase the HDL (good cholesterol) in your system even to higher levels, hence improving the overall cholesterol ratio in your system. It is good cholesterol that enhances the balance against the bad cholesterol and keeps you safe. Authentic research findings have proved without doubt, that the balance between the good and the bad cholesterol is more important in determining your health status than just the total cholesterol level. In fact, the total cholesterol level is a useless number. It’s the balance that counts.

So if you can take in adequate levels of good cholesterol, then the dominated and subdued bad cholesterol levels will have no ill effect. So what are we saying here? Saturated fats might actually be the treatment or preventive measure of bad cholesterol levels. There are a million other facts, facts remember, that are in complete favor of the bedeviled saturated fats. In fact, what is for saturated fats supersedes what is against them, when we come to facts.

Saturated fats usually comprise of three most dominant and distinct types namely, palmitic acid, stearic acid and then lauric acid. Stearic acids are found in concentrated levels in most animal fats and also in cocoa. Dietitians conquer that the stearic acids have no negative repercussions that can trigger heart disease risks. Fact, if anything, stearic acids are either neutral while in the system or are beneficial in maintaining a fat balance in the body. Your liver usually breaks down the stearic acids into the monounsaturated fat referred to as oleic acid. Oleic acid is the fat type that is constituted in the heart-healthy olive oil. Eating saturated fats is as healthy to the heart as is olive oil, but they did not tell you that, did they? The advocacy for saturated fats can go on and on, but the basic fact is that they are not the enemy you have been told they are.
