To shed this ignorance and establish facts, let us begin from the very start. What is a weight lifting belt? Weight belt is a wide, rigid leather cord that is covered by a strong and durable nylon, used to protect the body from slipping into poor exercise form during weight lifting exercises. Weight lifting belts are tied and fastened on the waist of the body builder, before commencing the lift. There is a part of the belt that specifically secures the back lining of the body, measuring six inches in height.

Bodybuilders, who use the belt think of it as essential during workout exercises. The truth is, it will protect your spinal column from injuries. That is why the belt’s width and thickness are important to individuals, so as to compare with their body size and dimensions. Besides preventing back pains, the other attributed advantage that is normally associated with the belt is its stiffness. The stiffness acts as a controller of the body, limiting twitching, heaving, contorting and bending or even arching your back, when lifting heavy weights. Such poor forms amplify the risk of a permanent back damage, especially to the spine cord.

The same is true with squats. The weight belt gives you firm support that prevents you from bending the upper part of the body. Over and above wearing the welt belt, the body builder must also remain, watchful, careful and vigilant, for injuries can still occur especially if he or she is careless. But the weight belt is an essential part of being cautious.
