Before starting a bodybuilding routine, there are some basics you should learn in order to prevent injury and to ensure your routine is as most effective as possible. In general, bodybuilding is an activity that promotes muscle growth and develops the strength and size of muscles through a series of exercises. It involves extreme muscle hypertrophy.
First, determine what goals you are looking to accomplish. Are you looking to become the next champion or just someone who is recreationally interested in bodybuilding? Having clear goals ahead of time ensures that you will be able to measure your progress instead of starting out blindly. Define your goals in terms of something measurable such as amount of muscle gained or amount of weight lifted. Then, consider the amount of time and dedication this will take and determine if this is realistic for your lifestyle. Only set goals that are attainable for you so you do not set yourself up for failure.
When one things of bodybuilding, huge weights usually come to mind. But to be effective, one does not necessarily have to use huge weights. There are bodybuilding competitions where competitors wear clothing to show off their physique and adorn their muscles with tanning lotions and oils. Both men and women alike can enjoy this sport and should only lift on what they can individually handle. Bodybuilding trains all muscles of the body including arms, shoulders, back, chest, abdominals, and legs. Muscles are pushed to their limits in order to achieve growth. Try to do between 6 and 12 repetitions of each exercise and three sets of each. Your muscles should reach exhaustion.
Finally, it’s important to not try too much too soon. Don’t add too much weight all at once and don’t push yourself past your physical limits. If your muscles begin to fatigue and you can no longer maintain proper form, take a break and resume your workout in a few days once. Give your body time to rest and to repair itself. Try to eat a healthy diet as well. A diet full of sugar and fat will hinder your progress. Also, please consult a physician before starting your program. Remember to have fun!
