Whether you are an avid bodybuilder with your eyes trained on achieving mass and muscle or you are the average person seeking a healthy eating routine this program is what you have been looking for. Since the overall goal is to cut down on body fat and increase on healthy energy giving foods, the six meals a day program, followed strictly enables you to achieve these goals easily.
The body is an ever-working organ that requires a constant supply of energy to go about its activities. It also needs other nutrients for repair and growth. All these it gets from the food that you take in which are promptly digested into their basic constituents to fulfill their functions. However the body can only digest and utilize so much food at a go such that any that is taken in excess is either discarded or deposited under the skin and around body organs leading to a condition referred to as obese.
Thus to avoid this wastage or unwanted increase in weight, the amount of food that one takes at a single sitting has to be controlled to the amount that the body can comfortably accommodate at a go. Since this amount is significantly smaller than the average amount of food taken in a single normal meal, the meal size is broken into smaller amounts and the frequency of taking the meals increased.
Traditionally, three heavy meals are taken three times a day by most people. This was a routine introduced and propagated during the industrial revolution to reduce the time wasted by people eating at irregular times of the day.
However, the three square meals a day have been proven to overwhelm the body’s internal engine and thus most of this food either goes undigested or is converted to fats. To avoid this, research advocates for one to take six meals spread out over the whole day.
The three hours interval in between these meals provide more than ample time for the body to process the ingested foods and the tissues to utilize the products before fresh food is available for processing. This provides a constant supply of nutrients evenly throughout the day.
Some of the benefits of the six meals a day regimen include reduced cholesterol levels due to the complete processing of the foods. It also gets the body used to a constant supply of all the necessary foods thus it is less likely to store some for future use. The body stores food in form of energy if its supply is irregular or inconsistent.
To maintain this new tough routine, plan ahead. Come up with a menu of the foods that each meal will consist of. Then cook ahead of time in large amounts then portion out for ease of heating and eating at a later date. You could also consider canned foods for the six meals a day routine. These come pre cooked and there is a wide array of food types to chose from to ensure balance.
