Anorexia nervosa is a condition characterized by an irrational dread of becoming fat coupled with a relentless pursuit of thinness. People suffering from anorexia go to extremes to reach and maintain a dangerously low bodyweight. But ironically, no matter how much weight is lost, no matter how emaciated they become, it’s never enough. On the contrary, the more scale dips, the more obsessed they become with food, dieting and weight loss. This is a unique condition that requires a very informed way of training. In other words, the person in this condition should seek assistance of a professional to guide him on the most appropriate way to take the training. A misguided training in this case may lead to a great failure. Therefore, before you seek assistance of any professional, you must first be sure that you are suffering from anorexia. This can be obtained by understanding some of the obvious features of anorexia.

One of the very direct features is the refusal to sustain a minimally normal body weight. A person suffering from anorexia will in most cases strive to control his body weight through dieting and other possible ways, but very limited improvements can be realized. This person may also have an intense fear of gaining weight, despite the individual being underweight as it is in most cases. This is especially when one has strived so hard until he has managed to cut down some weight. The person will always be suspicious about his weight. There is also some distorted view of one’s body or weight i.e. the person is under denial of the dangers of his low weight. He just believes in struggling for that very low weight irrespective of other pending dangers associated with the same.

The person under this condition will experience a dramatic weight loss due to his way of dieting. For him weight loss is viewed as a way to achieve happiness. The person will be dieting, purposely to reduce body weight, despite the fact that he is almost emaciated. He also feels fat despite being underweight and believes that self esteem is based entirely on how much you weigh and how thin you are. The person is also very critical of appearance and any slight change in the appearance is treated seriously. He is so much obsessed with calories, fat grams and nutrition in general. He believes that one’s appearance is only normal when he is thin, only thin people are normal. Such a person will also be pretending to eat and experiences some preoccupation with food. The person in this condition has a fixated body image and always denies being thin.

Some purging signs and symptoms associated with this condition include using diet pills, thinning up after eating and compulsory exercising. All these are also based on one’s personality traits.

From all these it is obvious that anorexia nervosa is a condition that makes the victim to have some identity crisis. The person suffering from this condition is unable to solve his problem alone, because he doesn’t view it as a problem in the first place. To help this person, you must advice the person to practice other bodybuilding exercises and good dieting that only fights the excess fat in the body, while at the same time builds stronger muscles. There are fat people who lose weight till they become so attractive. It is therefore not obvious that in the process of losing weight, a fat person is likely to suffer from anorexia. Above all, anorexia is a mental situation caused by a negative perception of ones fat body image. It should therefore be handled by a psychiatrist whenever it becomes so sever. Body building should never be a way to ones grave, but it should be a process to happiness and higher self esteem.
