Bringing out the definition below the waist is much harder than above the waist. For most guys, making the veins pop out of the arms and chest comes with just a few weeks of dieting and a high rep workout. The abs come out a few weeks later as the fat disappears and cardio can last 30 to 45 minutes per day. The legs, however, often take much longer to develop those cuts and rivets that are so sought after by bodybuilders. In a show where most body parts are equal and conditioning is similar, it will be the man with the most thigh cuts that is the most impressive to fans, and often to the judges as well. Bringing your legs to the point where the cuts are highly visible is imperative for winning. Here are some ideas for helping with reaching this goal.
Keep the cardio intensity low
It might make sense that running uphill on the treadmill at an incredible pace will bring out the cuts in your legs. However, you should think back to any mental image you possess of a long-distance runner. They are long and stringy, with little muscle on their legs, or anywhere else. Don’t fall into the muscle-burning trap of using too much cardio. Keep it low and slow for longer periods of time.
Twenty repetition squats
Nothing pulls an insane amount of blood to the legs like breathing squats of the 20-rep variety. You will still want to continue using your low repetition squats, but add a final set of the high rep version to help bring out cuts.
High protein diet
We are what we eat. The food we intake goes a long way toward dictating the way we look. Bumping up your protein grams while reducing your carbohydrate and fat intake can result in the same total amount of calories being consumed, but consisting of a more efficient burning variety. Protein is king!
AAS
Of course, if you are looking to truly ‘take it to the next level’, then you may eventually want to consider moving to the use of anabolic steroids. It is only with gear assistance that most athletes develop that swollen look of muscle groups such as the deltoids and quadriceps in particular. If you’re already using, then consider a solid oral for those few weeks before a show (in addition to whatever testosterone or testosterone & Nandrolone combination you have been running) to help increase dryness and bring out vascularity.
Stop on time
You should be using no direct leg weight work or cardiovascular training for one full week before the show. Every time you train legs, you develop a bit of puffiness and clouded vascularity that you typically just live with. In the final days before a show, you’ll be dropping water and manipulating sodium levels to get shredded, and you don’t need any added cloudiness at this time. Plenty of thigh flexing will be more than adequate for this final week before the show as you practice your posing routine for at least one hour per day.
