Protein Choices Essential Protein Sources For Your Diet RegimenProtein truly is probably more important than you could possibly fathom. For a bodybuilder especially, proteins are the well spring of life to your body. Probably the most common use of protein that everyone and especially bodybuilders know is that it’s used as a body builder. It forms the building blocks or the raw material that’ll lead to the forming of new body tissues. This is not the only good that protein does to your body. It is also involved in the regulation of substances in the body. Blood pressure and sugar level are kept in check by protein and it also regulates ones metabolism.

Proteins in turn are formed by amino acids. There are 22 of them that the body needs but only 8 are required to be taken from your nutrition. These are what we refer to as essential amino acids because they are essential in your diet. The rest are produced by the cells of your body. Animal proteins contain all of these 8 essential amino acids and are thus said to complete sources. Plant proteins however may be lacking in one or more of them and therefore you should carefully combine them ensuring that at the end of the day, you have all the essential amino acids.

The quality of protein is measured in what is referred to as the Biological Value. The higher the BV, the more nitrogen your body will take, absorb, utilize and retain. If you want lean muscles, you should try sticking to the protein sources with the highest BV. Here are some of the sources of protein that you should consider using as they have the highest BV.

Whey protein tops the list as the protein source with the highest BV meaning that it’s the richest protein source yet. As a stress reliever, it helps in boosting a bodybuilder’s performance. It has been shown to work wonders in HIV patients by helping them regain their healthy weight and generally remain healthy. Whey isolates are effective post-workout nutrition but should be avoided as supplements during the day. For just the normal daily supplementation, use whey concentrate.

Egg protein is not a surprise to be second on the list. When I learn this fact, I felt like I had discovered something as great as the fountain of youth! This is first and foremost because I love eggs and the idea of waking up to a hot french omelette gives me a reason to smile every morning. Eggs can also be cooked in as many ways as your imagination and your creativity allows.

Milk protein makes it to the top three and again, my heart leaps every time I think of this fact. I’m also a milkaholic! I love milk and all its products but I generally don’t like cheese unless it’s on a pizza. Milk is not only a good source of protein but it also hydrates your body as it contains a lot of water in it. Simply ensure that you keep to the low fat end of milk.
