In this modern day and age, it’s very likely that in the course of our daily travel, we’re going to run into situations where we much consume fast food, or no food a all. It’s at these moments, parked in the drive-thru staring at the ordering board, that we have to make a decision as to what foods we can eat which will serve our bodybuilding goals without adding body fat to our frames. We need foods that are high in protein and clean carbs, and low in fat and sodium. Also, enriched flour (a.k.a. white bread) needs to be avoided at all costs. Here are some national chain restaurants which offer foods we can use to build muscle and shed body fat, when no other food source is available.
Wendy’s, Burger King & McDonalds
The product offerings at these restaurants are similar. They’re not great, but they can work in a pinch. Chicken Caesar wraps, chicken sandwiches and hamburgers without buns, and chicken or shrimp salads highlight the list of items you should consider when you’re absolutely forced to dine at these establishments. When you have more choices, select from one of the places below.
Long John Silver’s
If piles of chicken and fish are what you’re looking for, then LJS is a restaurant you should check out. Once you get past the breading (which is easily peeled off), the food offered at this establishment is high in protein, low in fat, and is tastes great. Their side menu also delivers crab cakes and many other items which can help you to build muscle without adding fat into the mix.
Pollo Tropical
This Caribbean chain offers a wide variety of fresh-cooked shrimp, chicken breast, steak, and rice options prepared just the way you would in your kitchen. The cost is comparable to other fast-food joints, but the quality in terms of protein and carbs without a lot of oil used in preparation is sensational. See if your city has one, and make a stop!
Boston Market
This chain delivers whole or cut roasted chicken, much like you would prepare at home if you actually had a giant over and all sorts of delicious seasonings. Their side dishes include corn, rice, and just about any other bodybuilding carbohydrate source you’d consider using at home – without the long preparation time!
Places to avoid
Kentucky Fried Chicken is one restaurant of which you should probably steer clear when trekking through the fat-food world in search of a quick and healthy meal. Jack-In-The-Box and Juicy Lucy’s also can’t provide the protein and carbs you need without “breaking the bank” in terms of far and sodium. Steer clear of these establishments. .
Of course, a pile of chicken fresh off the Foreman grill is going to be preferred over anything listed above. However, when youre on the road rushing from class to pick up the kids after a long day at work, Mr. Foreman and his grill might not be the first or even tenth items on your agenda for times like these. Stick to drive-thru choices which fit your bodybuilding goals.
