It’s just by coincidence that according to me, the three happen to be in my opinion the tastiest sources of protein ever. They happen to be among the top sources of protein in terms of their Biological Value. This means that your body will absorb, retain and use up most if not all of it. The higher the BV, the higher the quality of the protein.

Fish is among the best sources of lean protein as it contains very little fat as compared to the other protein sources. This should be a top source of lean protein for any bodybuilder who wants to form lean muscles. It is low in calories so you can have it with a good carbohydrate accompaniment such as brown rice to add on to the bulk. The Omega 3 fatty acids are very important to your body and they are found in abundance in fish. That’s why every nutritionist you talk to will mention the importance of fish oil tablets as part of your supplement intake. These fatty acids are responsible for your heart’s health and your brain as well. So if you want to be sharper in class, who knows probably Einstein went for fishing every Saturday afternoon! Stick to the types of fish that don’t have mercury or have very low amounts of it.

Beef is my personal favorite; I don’t think there’s anything that can beat my mom’s sirloin steak! Did you know that the different cuts of beef have different nutritional value and also have a specific way of cooking it? Well now you know, don’t just go to your butcher and ask for a kilo of meat. Round cut is the cut with the highest protein content and at the same time has relatively less fat than the other cuts. You should also buy the bones once in a while and drink the bone soup. I don’t think it gets any healthier than that. Bone soup is as good as giving you a high calcium injection.

Milk is last but most definitely not the least on the list. Milk is rich in protein and whey, which is a milk product, tops the list as the protein source that has the highest Biological Value. It is also high in calories and should therefore be used especially by hard gainers as it will provide more calories than other sources. It contains calcium which is essential for healthy bones which is especially of great importance to bodybuilders. It also strengthens your teeth and it should especially be taken also in the form of supplements for pregnant women. Milk is good in hydrating the body as most of it is water. This is great news for the people who struggle with drinking water but I’m not saying that you should replace it totally with milk. You should be careful with the fat content in milk and if possible, try sticking to the low fat side of it.

Keep these three protein sources as part of your diet and you will never go wrong.
