In order to gain muscle, have a clear goal of what you want to gain, how you want to measure it, and why you want to achieve it. A clear goal will give you more reason to stay on your diet and training plan. To build muscle several important steps must be done daily. Eat good quality food, work out and get proper rest to recover.
Muscle growth is a cycle. When you work out, you actually tear the muscle down. You do not get stronger from lifting weights and working out. You get stronger and gain muscle from how you recover your muscles after you train. When you eat food high in protein, your body repairs and builds the muscles that you tore down. When you sleep at least 8 hours a night, that also gives your body proper time to rest and recover.
How you work out, the type of activity and exercise you engage in will determine how you gain muscle. If you are looking to gain overall size and muscle mass, use a general bodybuilding program. A good beginners program will give you basic exercises that are time tested to gain muscle. If you are an athlete in a particular sport, an overall strength training program will be beneficial, but you can adapt your program to help you gain strength in particular areas you need for your sport.
The type of food that you eat will help you or hurt you if you are trying to gain muscle. By eating protein rich, lean foods (chicken, lean steak, eggs) this gives your body the building blocks to rebuild muscles in your body. Most experts recommend that you consume at least 1 gram of protein per pound you weigh daily. It is also better for you to build muscle if you consume food in a steady stream throughout the day. Try 5 or 6 smaller meals instead of 3 meals. You will be able to eat more and you will get more benefit from it. The other main staple of your diet should be carbohydrates. This will give you energy to work out hard and still keep up with your other daily activities. There are many companies that make protein drinks and supplements to allow you to take in the amounts of protein that your body needs to properly gain muscle.
Be patient with your body when you first start to build muscle. It has to adapt to the additional stress placed on it. If you take care of your body and recover properly, it will not take long to adapt and you will begin to see the results of your hard work.
