When looking to bulk up and need an additional boost from a protein supplement, there are many different forms of protein which you can use in order to help with muscle growth more quickly. The use of protein powders, shakes, and protein bars are a great way to add calories, add lean protein for muscle building, and to get calories in, without the use of larger meals. Depending on what you are looking to do as far as muscle mass (gaining weight, or gaining lean muscle) there are several types of protein powders and protein shakes which are targeted to specifically building muscle mass.
There are several brands sold on the market today, including: muscle milk, pure protein, pure whey, 100% whey, isopure, and hundreds of other brand names which consumers can choose from in the form of protein powders (or already prepared shakes in a drink form), in order to make the perfect protein shakes for muscle building. However, no matter which brand you purchase, the more important aspect to consider is the actual ingredients in the powder used, not the most expensive name brand which many consumers believe is the best to buy. Brand names will make products more expensive, not necessarily better. And in many cases, the store brand protein powder (from GNC, or wherever you shop), are just as good, if not better, than the name brands, and are half the cost. So, rather than pick the most well known brand name, make sure to ask an associate at the store which ingredients are the most important for building muscle.
For the best results, you want to find a protein powder which has a whey based isolate. Whey protein offers a huge amount of protein (approximately 50 grams per scoop in most powders), is very low in calories, and can be purchased in several flavors allowing you to add in additional ingredients to make a more protein heavy shake (or just to add flavor and fruit to a plain based whey protein drink). Whey is typically the first ingredient in most protein powders, and should always be the base of protein you look for to help build the most muscle mass.
Additional ingredients such as creatine, milk thistle, and other egg based proteins are also great for muscle building. No matter which protein you choose, make sure whey is the first ingredient, and don’t worry so much about a brand name.
