Everyone knows that you need to eat lots of clean, muscle-building foods in order to develop a great physique. The problem is that most of us have real-life responsibilities, which prevent us from preparing and eating six quality bodybuilding meals every day. Work, school, family, and other responsibilities mean that we’re often on the road when it’s time to give our bodies the next much-needed meal. When you find yourself behind the wheel and hungry, there are a few things to remember which can ensure you have the best chances at eating right to reach your bodybuilding goals.
Always look for the keywords
When you look at the menu, you should automatically scan the menu for the 4 magic words: “Steamed, Broiled, Baked, & Grilled”. The meal will have less fat automatically, in most cases.
Pre-snack
Always nibble on something – anything – before you hit the drive thru. A piece of string cheese, some fruit, a granola bar, etc. You’ll eat much less food, and order more coherently, if you curb that starving feeling.
Specialty places
Chinese, Sub Shops, Italian, and similar places will always beat out a burger joint. Choose the healthier style, and you’re going to heave more healthy options on the menu. And since specialty places survive by winning over loyal customers from fast food places and don’t have their assembly-line processes, they’ll often customize your meal with ease.
Lose the bun
Eliminating the white bread from the menu removes 200 calories of the worst kind (poor Glycemic index performing) from your meal.
Substitute
Order the baked potato instead of the fries. Ask for the sandwich without cheese or sauce. Look for the grilled, not fried chicken patty. Double up on the lettuce and tomato. There are many ways to add value to the meal and remove the negatives.
When confronted with an option to either miss a meal or visit a drive-thru restaurant, always take the drive-thru. Just be aware that by employing a few common sense tactics, you can continue to feed your muscles and move closer to fulfilling your bodybuilding potential. Missing a meal is the worst thing a bodybuilder can do. And eating a lapful of garbage is pretty bad too. But grabbing a clean protein and carb source from a drive-thru is surprisingly easy if you just remember these key steps.
