pmXfit – The Ultimate Training System!
Q: Can you tell me some ways that I can increase my overall intensity in my training?
A: Yes, for sure. You can use many different methods. One would be The Shock Principle. That involves training with more weight than usual, speeding up your training, cutting down rest times, or doing unfamiliar exercises. You can do Forced Reps at the end of each set, provided you have a training partner or some way to spot yourself on certain movements. Isolation is also a good method by which you can really involve one specific muscle and focus intensely on it (do one armed preachers, rather than barbell curls).
You can also use negative reps with a training partner, or if you don’t have one, you can use the cheating method, which just means you use momentum and the surrounding body parts to help you “cheat” the weight up. Also, if you are fit enough, you can use super set and giant sets. Or, can move continuously as you do in supersets, by doing Staggered sets. That means that between sets of back, you can do sets of calves or abs. Flexing between sets also helps keep the intensity high.
