body splits How To Use Body Splits To Create Big ResultsQ:  I was thinking of doing full body splits – one set per each body part and doing a full body workout at least 3 times per week. What do you think of this?

A: I don’t think it’s ideal in the long run. However, anything is going to work for a period of time if a few things are present: intensity, mind-muscle connection, and in this case, the ability to ascertain which exercises are going to be most effective for your body if one set per body part is all you’ve got. I do advocate using a variety of different approaches, and I think that this is a great one for short-short-term. I mean, I would throw in ONE WEEK of this every so often, not several weeks of it. I think that’s where you’ll find the most effect. Knowing HOW to utilize different training principles and splits, and for the appropriate length, is to a large extent what makes something effective or ineffective. In my opinion using compound movements – making it more of a powerlifting routine – is best. Think of it as powerlifting light – high intensity from higher reps and more workouts per week with less weight. This is really effective if you take into consideration how all the exercises you choose flow into one another. Try to make each exercise a pre-exhaustion tool for the next one. Do them all in a row, all to failure.
