Q: I’m having a difficult time keeping my appetite up during my bulking phase. I am so sick of food, it isn’t even funny! And if I can’t get the calories in, I can’t put on the size I want. Is there anything I can take to boost my appetite?
A: Well, there are probably several issues at play here, including the fact that you are probably eating too much “clean food” and not getting in the calories you need in more “calorie dense” meals, rather than pure volume of food. Whenever you choose clean food and the volume is overwhelming compared to your regular volume, it become a chore to eat. You can take appetite inducing supplements, which we’re about to share with you, but also, start eating redder meats. By that, we mean, start eating dark meat chicken and turkey, steaks, and even the “other white meat” – pork! These are higher calories protein choices and they offer the ability to create a more calorie dense meal. Also, supplement with fats such as flax seed oil, and other linoleic/ linolenic choices, like nuts, avocados and other ‘good-for-you’ oils. There is a big gap between contest prep eating and crap eating, like fast food meals all day long. But a good couple of those each week won’t hurt you either. Now, for the appetite stimulants: We find that Claritin, which is an antihistamine, is a good choice – as are other antihistamines. You can also do the B-12 shots, as some do, but they sometimes stimulate appetite and sometimes not. You can also take GXR or IGF-1 for appetite stimulants. IGF has made mighty men ingest over 12K calories per day before. Give it a try.
