Hula hoop is a trademark that came about in the 60′s when a patent could not be obtained on this device due to the fact that it is a thing that has been around since ancient Greece. Even the term “hula hoop” was coined a hundred or so years before it was trade marked. When sailor saw it being used in Hawaii.
Nothing beat the craze in the early 60′s when it was introduced, or, basically re-introduced. They sold them by the millions. Everyone was hula hooping. In recent times this craze is making a reemergence. All sorts of web sites are promoting this as a great exercise if nothing else.
So is the hula hoop really good exercise, or is it just good fun?
There are not many hula hoop exercises, really just one. First master the basic hip movement to keep it spinning, and then you are in the exercise zone. Now to make that exercise count be sure to do this for maximum effect:
Keep that hoop spinning for a solid two minute burst. This should get the heart rate up, and depending on your current fitness level, you should be breathing heavy too.
Now, take a rest. But don’t rest for too long. Don’t let your heart rate fall to a relaxed state again.
Go for another two minute burst. Get that wind up again. Keep this routine up as long as you can.
Figure each two to three minute burst to be equivalent to a “set”.
How many sets will be required for maximum effect for calorie burn and aerobic exercise?
Try to do as many sets as you can, including rests — for twenty minutes. This should probably amount to 6 to 8 sets depending on your rest period.
How long will it take overall to see results?
Try it every other day for three weeks and I’m sure that if you are already toned, you will be even more so. This exercise can give a girl a very shapely hip area. It has this effect because it works the entire core; front, sides and back. If you need to loose some inches around the waist, see how many inches a three week period of twenty minutes a day sheds for you. Expect those same results consistently until that waist is the size you desire.
Try a little bit of jumping rope on your alternate days, and this will work a different muscle group while still burning many calories. Because what may seem like toys instead of exercise equipment, and child’s play as opposed to a workout, can be an amazing form of training the can yield incredible results. You will see before long at all that this is a serious exercise that it also a great amount of fun.
