Children are very unique individuals and some of their requests may seem to be out of place. As apparent you may tend to think that the child is joking or is just saying something for the sake of it. Suppose the child is nagging you about permission to get started on bodybuilding and it is clear that he or she is very intent on doing so, what would the best course of action be? The sound advice that can be offered to a parent in this predicament is to allow the child to start on this activity. The only thing that needs attention here is how the training will be done.

The child is obviously quite young and will therefore not have the ability of a teenager let alone the grown-up with respect to the issue of lifting various weights and other workouts that are quite intense in nature. Simply put, the child is not yet mature in various aspects of the anatomy and physiology. To start with you have to appreciate that the child has an undeveloped skeleton. This will not be mature until the kid attains the age of 14.

In some cases this does not happen until the age of 22. In the case of the girl child you will have to be extra careful since letting them partake in activities that are counterproductive for the bone structure will most probably be carried into old age. This therefore calls for caution when the selection of the training method is being chosen.

The concerns that are voiced in the case of children are more serious than the ones we have listed above. There are a host of ailments and conditions that kids are exposed to by virtue of their tender ages. One such ailment is the Osgood Schlatter disease. In addition to the diseases that they may suffer one also has to bear in mind that the child has a larger surface area courtesy of the fact that the body is smaller.

This bears consequences in as far as the regulation of body temperature is concerned. If at all workouts are to be done then the parent will have to ensure that the kid does adequate warm-ups prior to the start of the training. Another important fact is that kids tend to sweat or perspire less as compared to the adult. This very fact means that there are increased chances of kids succumbing to conditions like heat exhaustion and also heat strokes. Generally, their ability to take part in these activities is limited by their inferior cardiovascular and breathing capacities.

There are advantages to be attained though. An adult responds to weight training through muscular growth but the child will increasingly respond to neurological factors. As a parent you should choose a workout that is more focused on exercise rather than weightlifting. Make sure they eat balanced foods and that they drink water regularly.
