It is until when a body builder harnesses insurmountable levels of muscle endurance that he or she can be guaranteed to make it to the champion’s level of physique development. Endurance is the measure of tenacity in bodybuilding. Without endurance, no body builder can progress fro the beginner stages of training. Endurance in bodybuilding is the staying power even when the workout becomes demanding and straining.
It is the patience that sees a body builder through even the most difficult training phases. It is the survival instinct and ability that filters champions from the dropouts. It is the stamina that enables a body builder to progress from one stage of bodybuilding to the next. It is the fortitude that curves out perfection in the body builder’s physique. It is the continued existence and progress that underlies the process of muscle development and consolidation. Endurance is the basic raw material of a body builder’s spirit. Without it, a bodybuilding program is temporally and doomed to fail.
So how does a body builder perfect his or her endurance in the bodybuilding training? Simple, by loving, adoring and inviting pain.
Endurance comes from intensified training. Once the body adapts to training level and the muscles are developed enough to handle the workload in that level without any exertion, growth seizes and a plateau is initiated. To revive growth and progress in the muscle mass and or strength, the intensity level must be revised upwards. With an intensified training demand, comes pain. The muscles resist the overload, they complain against added workload and even threaten to tear or damage if the training intensity is not retained at the same dormant growth level. And this is where endurance comes in.
A body builder must learn to live with that pain that accrues from a controlled overload. This leaves the body with absolutely no choice, but to initiate further muscular growth to take care of the overload. With time, and if the body builder endures the pain for long enough, the body develops adequate muscle networks to make the previously above-par intensity, quite okay. What pained to lift becomes actually light. The body is again at home with the training intensity and growth stops.
The body builder who aims at continued growth must again amplify the training intensity. Pain will definitely result, as the body complains against this new intensity level. Endurance comes into play again, and the body builder who last long enough in the new level of training accrues even more muscle mass and strength as the body adapts to the overload. And the process begins all over again when this happens, over and over again.
The body builder who masters pain that results from muscle’s resistance to increased intensity, propels himself or herself to a path of perpetual growth. Bodybuilding training should actually court pain in the muscles since that pain is indicative of a body builder who is operating on a region of maximal muscle growth. Training without pain means one is mark timing, within a plateau where no muscle growth accrues. Loving pain, calling it gradually, adoring it, inviting it with intensified but controlled workouts, living with it perpetually, is perfecting training endurance and that is how champions are made.
