pmXfit – The Ultimate Training System!
Many people don’t really bother with the details concerning their nutrients. They just know that they are eating a lot of food in a wide variety and that’s about all they need to know. Knowing the details about your nutrients is like navigating through the deep waters with both a compass and a map! While you might still find your way without using them, there is also a high chance of you getting lost at sea. It’s the same thing with your nutritional health. Knowing the details about your nutrition will give you a deeper conviction as to why you need to eat healthy. It will also inform you of the dire consequences which an excess or a deficit of each nutrient so that you remain on the healthy side of life. That’s why I chose to write about vitamins. A lot has been written about them in general but very few people into the detail of the types of vitamins.
Fat soluble vitamins as the name suggests, are soluble in fat. This means that they are transported in the body by the use of fat. Water soluble vitamins on the other hand are transported by the use of water. Water soluble vitamins aid the absorption of fat and hence affect how well fat soluble vitamins are absorbed. The implication of this is that if your body doesn’t absorb enough fats, then inadequate amounts of fat soluble vitamins will be absorbed and transported around the body. Now to the main question on your mind, which exactly are these so called fat soluble vitamins?
Vitamin A falls under the category of fat soluble vitamins. There are both animal and pant source of this vitamin. The most common source of cause is the carrot. Vitamin A is also associated with the health of the eyes especially in aiding night vision. It also gives your skin a healthy glow as it greatly improves it. It is also known to improve the immune system. A deficiency will lead to poor vision, skin and even reproductive disorders. An excess can be manifested through side effects such as nausea, bone and muscle pains and even the falling off of your hair.
Vitamin D also referred to as Calciferol is also one of the fat soluble vitamins. Remember when you were told as a kid that you get vitamin D from the sun, it wasn’t a lie. The sunlight in conjunction with the cholesterol manufactures it. It helps the heart by maintaining its muscles and also helps maintain your nervous system. It has also been known to be aid the absorption of calcium meaning that it helps in growth and in the bone density. In short, it is our very own all natural steroid of sorts. Deficiency will cause poor absorption of calcium, muscle cramps and in severe cases you may develop a condition called osteoporosis. An excess will lead to an excess in calcium in he blood as well as abdominal pains.
Other fat soluble vitamins which I won’t get into are E, K and F.
