It's a wonderful mechanism that is capable of adjusting according to the current condition of your body. For example, when there is little food available for it to metabolize, such as in moments of hunger, your metabolism deliberately slows down to minimize consumption of food and energy. On the other hand, if there is a constant supply of food, it will work at a faster pace to digest what you have ingested.
