Q: I have seen some products being sold as “fat loss creams” and I am very skeptical about them. Do you know of any clinical evidence to show their effectiveness? If they work, I would be the perfect candidate but I don’t want to waste my money.
A: Sorry for the long explanation but this is one of those things that makes it tough for a lot of people in the supplement industry – or any industry for that matter. Back in the late ‘80’s a study revealed the effectiveness of a transdermal (through the skin) yohimbe, forskolin, and aminophylline mixture. Right away, everyone and their sister jumped on the bandwagon (Kinda like when the Cowboys are winning). The problem is two things really. First, people who don’t know anything about manufacturing supplements, trying to ...
There is a very clear distinction between losing weight and losing body fat. Most people nowadays use the concept of losing weight as a gauge for determining how physically fit or healthy a person is. In fact the latter provides a better indicator of a person who is physically fit or healthy.
For any person who is exercising or body building the best indicator of fitness is the body composition and not the body weight. The main reason is because muscle tissues are usually dense than fat tissues. Thus although you may be having a low body weight this does not necessarily mean that you have low fat content. Weight scales can therefore be deceptive since fat weigh less than muscle tissue.
Many articles tend to offer solutions on how to lose weight instantly within a few weeks or months. They concentrate mostly ...
You need to get some cardio but cannot seem to get to the gym. You are in a time crunch and not a treadmill in sight. This is where Cardio Circuit Training comes in to play.
Keeping in mind that a cardio workout means elevating your heart rate to approximately 60-80% of your maximum heart rate for fat burning, and then up to 80% for fitness. You do not have to run a marathon or give your blood in the gym to accomplish this. Remember, the goal is fairly simple, you are trying to raise your heart rate and Cardio Circuit will do just that.
The best thing of Cardio Circuit is that you can do it in your own home and you do not need a big room devoted to fitness to perform the various exercises, eliminating any ...Posted in: Training | | Comments (0)
One unfortunate aspect of bodybuilding that has been manifested in lots of people is the tendency to focus all the effort on the upper body and then doing little or nothing under the belt. There are consequences for this type of training and these are quite comical. There is nothing very amusing if you will spend the whole year in the gym and then emerge only for people to start calling you weird names like ‘chicken legs’ simply because your upper body is so sculpted but it is being supported on feeble legs. You may have incredible proportions in your upper body but you will not get full marks if your legs are spindly in character. You simply have to apply effort in ensuring that you get those noticeable quads and calves.
The bodybuilding effort in this case should be approached with ...Posted in: Training | | Comments (0)
Caffeine is a wonderful foundation drug for fat-burning. No, we’re not advising you to buy a case of Mountain Dew and chug it in front of the television, and you’ll just watch the pounds melt away. Rather, when used in conjunction with other supplements, caffeine acts as a strong base for the synergistic wonder that is a bodybuilding dieting stack.
When tested alone, caffeine has been proven to be an effective fat-burner along a number of pathways in your body. The metabolic rate is slightly raised, and body fat is released at a quicker rate due to its presence. However, caffeine alone will only shave 100 to 200 calories from a daily diet. So while its technically burning calories, it would take months to shed five pounds from caffeine use alone.
When added to a stack with ephedrine ...Posted in: Supplements | | Comments (0)
For most of us, daily life is very structured and consistent. We wake up, shower and get dressed, and hit the road for work. We put in our eight hours at work, taking breaks on regular schedules. We come home, make dinner, get the kids ready for bed (if we’re at that stage), then we have a few hours to ourselves.
This daily structure is actually very good for bodybuilding nutrition – most of the time. The consistent schedule of a work day is wonderful for getting in all of your bodybuilding meals on a regular basis. Breakfast is consumed at the same time every day, because you have to. Breaks give you a chance to drink a protein shake, and lunch and dinner are on the same schedule as well, dictated to you by ...Posted in: Nutrition | | Comments (0)
Q: I have been getting a lot of Omega-3s from fish oil and flax oil, and have been eating a ton of protein. My fat loss is so accelerated right now. But my question is, why does one fat cause more fat loss than another. I mean, why couldn't you swill vegetable oil instead of flax, or eat fatty meats and lose a ton of fat?
A: Well, from a ketogenic standpoint, all fats are created equal and you get progress in the way of fat loss. But, it's long been known that Omega-3s are rife with fat burning effects. You will be even better off balancing the fats by getting Omega-6s (GLA from Evening Primrose), Omega-3s from flax oil and fish oil are a great complement. The higher the fat (within reason) the higher the fat loss. Your ...Posted in: Nutrition | | Comments (0)
Q: Can you take DHEA and BCAA's for fat loss? I heard someone say the other day that they take both together, along with some other fat burning products and it works like a charm. But how can you tell?
A: Well, one way to "tell" as you say, is to just try DHEA and BCAA's together, without adding a lot of other items to your dosing day. But yes, absolutely, these two together can be great. Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) is comprised of leucine, isoleucine and valine. Leucine, of course, represents the highest concentration of any amino acid in muscle tissue, so it's a very valuable product for setting the stage for the addition of muscle, the retention of muscle and/or recovery. All of these are important to fat loss because the more muscle you have or ...Posted in: Supplements | | Comments (0)
Let it be said that the more consistent you are off-season with diet, the easier it is to make changes and see results pre-contest. For example, if you eat six meals with the same amount of calories, protein, carbs and fat, day in day out, in the off-season, it stands to reason that you should be relatively lean year ‘round. When pre-contest time rolls around, you make changes based on how your body responds. For example, if you respond well to cutting back on carbs and increasing fat (most of us do) then you’ll increase fats slightly (making healthier choices than you would in the off season – such as flax or avocado) and cut back on carb intake, while keeping protein at least fixed if not a little boosted.
Cardio is also important, but when you’re cutting carbs, you’ll do ...Posted in: Training | | Comments (0)
Purists may tell you that combining cardio and strength training just won't work, or creating interval training from ordinary workouts is a waste of time. But athletes who prepare for actual sports - not aesthetic Speedo comparisons up on a stage - know that this is one of the most effective ways not only to gain size, but to gain strength, agility, balance, and performance.
Interval training is a way to work both the aerobic and the anaerobic systems within the body at the same time. It's an obvious time-saving tool, but also a valuable training tool that nets more calories burned and provides more intensity than most know how to inject into workouts.
For example, during a high intensity effort, or sprint, the anaerobic system uses the energy stored in the muscles (glycogen) for short bursts of activity. Since anaerobic metabolism ...Posted in: Training | | Comments (0)
