The early 90's were full of controversy for women body builders. For instance, the Ms. Olympia contest of 1991 became the first ever aired live on TV. In this contest, the legendary Lenda Murray had faced a fierce challenge from Bev Francis, the runner-up to the title in 1990. Francis had previously been a powerlifter and had only converted to body building in the mid 1980's, gradually, she refined her supreme physique in line with contest judging standards for body builders. To make matters worse for Lenda, Bev entered the 1991 Ms. Olympia larger and more defined than in all other years previously. By the night show Bev was leading and Lenda needed all of the votes she could get for the first place. When Lenda finally retained the title by one point over Bev, the contest became the most controversial to date.

Bodybuilding being an activity of body modification that results to excessive muscle hypertrophy is often and used to be considered a discipline of the male gender. However in 1970’s female bodybuilders first found there way into joining professional body building activities in Canton, Ohio and other succeeding competitions and are similarly acclaimed as with the men now a days. It gave way to more women to participate in bodybuilding and became popular to the female gender as it is in men. In a bodybuilding competition, participants flaunt their physiques to a jury who give points from how the body strikes. The muscles are exposed through “cutting process” a process where fat loss, oils and tanning lotions combined with proper illumination highlights the different muscle groups. Participants perform standard poses - the front lat spread, the rear lat spread, the front double biceps, the back double biceps. Another poses are only required for men.

How to correct this mistake is a matter that calls for a very keen approach to the general relationship between women and the sport. It is also worth noting some of the specific differences between women and the men. With these points in mind, I offer to face the issue.
