Often this is influenced by our family, friends, co-workers, popular culture, and yes, even those buddies of ours in the gym. This article is devoted to making bodybuilders aware of some of the most common fashion mistakes they commit. Since most people aren’t going to walk up to a 225-pound monster on the leg press or in the grocery store and mock their choice of footwear or baggy pants, this may come as big news to some bodybuilders. However, it must be said. Let’s get started!

The fanny pack

This accessory serves as a wallet and gear receptacle for the bodybuilder unable to bring himself to wear pants with pockets. After all, it’s impossible to make out leg separation through your pants with pockets in the way, right? Hardly. Choose pants with pockets and the fanny pack can stay at home.

Optomix shoes

This brand, or any brand of thin-soled wrestling shoes might be very comfortable in the gym, but they sure do look silly being worn in the line for your table at the Olive Garden. Leave them in the car, or buy shoes that actually have a sole!

Spandex

Unless you’re a female in a 1985 rap music video, you have no reason wearing spandex. True, men like Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler do wear them on leg day. When you attain their level of size, we’ll reconsider your ban on them. Until then, don’t be caught dead in spandex anything!

Bandannas

Losing your hair can be tough for a bodybuilder, but as anyone with high testosterone and a receding hairline will tell you, there’s no stopping it once it occurs. Your best bet is to not hide it with a tacky “do-rag” of your choosing. Rather, shave your head and take on the world like a more muscular Jason Statham. The ladies will appreciate your clean-cut look.

Bikini briefs – all year long!

Nobody but your significant other will know what kind of underwear you are wearing. However, if you are wearing posing trunks in the off-season, there is a good chance she is laughing about it, and maybe telling her friends. Boxers and briefs should be your only options until a few weeks before the show.

Tankini

This invention – the midriff tank top for men – is perhaps the worst of them all, and one that even most bodybuilders wouldn’t be caught dead wearing. However, in a world where Gynecomastia is often prevalent and guys want to show off their bodies without revealing their nipples, there will always be a tankini on display somewhere.

The bottom line is that it’s your physique, and you can show it off any way you wish. If you subscribe to the above styles and it makes you feel good and enjoy your life, so be it. However, it is only fair that you are aware of just how the rest of the world sees you – a walking billboard for tacky bodybuilding clothing stereotypes.
