Getting a good amount of sleep not only affects your work in the office but also affects how well you perform in the gym. It also affects how well you relate to the people around you and how you react to the pressures of life that will come your way on that particular day.
Sleep or lack of it affects your psychological health and lack of adequate sleep has been known to cause severe depression if this sleep deprivation is prolonged. Believe me the last thing a bodybuilder wants is an unrested mind. The brain controls all the biological processes in the body and the body builder’s body is the definition of a boy that has a lot of activity going on. He or she constantly need oxygen and energy to be transported to the different tissues in the body, waste products need to be flushed out of the body and the necessary hormones have to be released at the right time and in the right quantity. Temperature has to be kept at optimal levels and your metabolism has to be in check. This is just an iota of what the brain is supposed to do. Now imagine having an unrested brain which is not functioning optimally, total chaos.
How well the heart works also depends greatly on how much rest it gets. After hitting the gym hard and having your heart give you 100%corporation, it would only be fair if you let it rest for a while, not stop, rest.
Here are some suggestions that will make you have better sleep at night. First of all if you work your ass off bit in the office and in the house as well, you need to hire a nanny or a house help. Working your body like a horse and then not giving it enough rest is simply torture. Get someone to help you and if you have big kids then I think it’s time they got familiar with chores. Secondly, avoid sleeping too much during the day. If you want a siesta, it should exceed 2 hours, if it does, you will only spoil your sleeping cycle.
This brings me to my third point.
The body responds well to routine and sleep is no exception. Develop a sleep cycle that your body will get used to. By this I mean, go to bed every night at the same hour as much as possible and also wake up at the same time the next morning. Every time your bedtime reaches, your body will automatically know that it should be in bed and you will begin to feel sleepy naturally. The next morning, you don’t have to worry bout getting to the office late because of oversleeping, your body will also know tat it needs to be up at a certain hour. Avoid taking a meal before going to bed and it always helps to dim the lights or switch them off all together. Last but not least, avoid sleeping pills as much as possible.
