There are very many bodybuilders who are of the habit of assuming the importance of warming up before a weight training session. In fact many gyms do not observe this rule. Most bodybuilders are in a rush to workout there biceps and triceps that they forget to do any warm up prior to the weight training. What they don’t realize is that, when they do this they are actually jeopardizing there chances of achieving bodybuilding success. For those who remember to start the workout session with warm-ups they perform them so hastily that they fail to be effective in stimulating muscle growth. When you are performing warm up sessions they should be intense and you should not do them for the sake doing them. There are several benefits which you stand to enjoy when you warm up. Some of the benefits will be long term and other benefits will be short term. The short term benefits include the ability to train using heavy weights during the actual workout. This will increase your chances of growing bigger and stronger muscles. The long term benefit of warm up session is that they will help you prevent gym injuries. With this in mind I don’t see why you should not spend the first few minutes before the actual workout doing warm up exercises.

For your warming up session to be effective you need to reserve the first five minutes doing cardio vascular exercises. You could for instance work on the treadmill, rowing machines or the recumbent bike. There are several benefits which come out of cardio vascular exercises which include jump stating the lungs and heart into action and also raising the body temperature. You might be wondering why it is important to raise the body temperature before weight training. The reason is that when the body temperature is increased the muscles will respond more to the training. Think of it this way, when a glass blower is trying to change the shape of the glass he has to make sure that the glass is very hot. Thus if he should try and shape the glass when it’s cold, it will break since glass is brittle when cold. This is the same with muscle tissue when you train without warming up, the muscles will be more susceptible to muscle tear.

The other reason why you need to warm up is because when you warm up your flexibility is increased in the process. The secretion of synovial fluids which are used to lubricate the joints is enhanced when you warm up. When the joints are lubricated they become more flexible.
The other benefit of warming up is that it will help prepare you psychologically to handle intense training.

After performing cardiovascular exercises the next part of your warm up session involves doing stretching exercises. You need to stretch your muscles since this also increases the flexibility of the joints and therefore you will be able to undertake intense workout.
