Many scientists are concerned that many bodybuilders are facing a real threat entering into the world of steroid abuse. The main reason why every bodybuilder has some intrinsic attraction to these substances is that they are dissatisfied with their progress. The truth of the matter is that the craving has less to do with bodybuilding results and more to do with body image which in many bodybuilders happens never to be good enough.

There are many reasons why this is the case. For one, many bodybuilders have eating disorders. They either east too much and they are therefore struggling with weight problems or they eat too little and rarely have enough energy to complete a bodybuilding routine. Eating disorders occur 10 times more in men than in women. A major driving force for these disorders is a feeling of lack of masculinity.

When it comes to women, the problem is less prevalent. Incidentally, few women are interested in masculinity, meaning that only a few of them engage in bodybuilding. The specific areas that men use to gauge masculinity are mainly the upper torso including the muscles of the arms – the biceps and triceps.

The training methods that one uses also determine whether an individual is going to be satisfied with bodybuilding results. For many people, the equipments used are either too simple too use or are too challenging meaning they require more expertise. In the former case the individual feels that his earlier conception of bodybuilding has not matched with his present experiences. In the latter case, the individual becomes disillusioned because of a feeling of failure.

Overtraining is another cause of dissatisfaction among many bodybuilders. When you over-train, you become drained both psychologically and emotionally. You feel like you have let yourself down in the front of your gym instructor and that you are unlikely to fails many other times in the future. This is why it is important to be cautious in the first few days in a bodybuilding program. These are the days that determine how well you are going to fair in the long run. Do not indulge in the sport unless you are sure that you have enough emotional and physical arsenals for handling the outcome.

According to many scholars, the competitiveness of bodybuilding is not the reason behind use of steroids. Rather, it is dissatisfaction with the results that one has already achieved. This is a serious problem that sometimes deteriorates into an illness. When this happens, the only way out is medical advice. When one is dissatisfied with the results that they have already achieved, they tend to have a very low esteem. The easiest way of regaining their lost esteem is indulging in some dangerous steroid overdoses.

It is rather unfortunate that our personal standards are often set at a high level. This level is often so high that we rarely attain any progress since we have started off on the wrong footing to begin with. This is why it is important for every person to set bodybuilding goals that are within reasonable limits.
