When it comes to diet and exercise common sense is important. This means it is important to use a diet plan where you lose weight gradually. You should eat to satisfy your hunger and for good nutrition This means simple changes in your diet will be the most effective way to achieve weight loss. Diets that promise you fast results are often not very realistic. So choose a diet that is sensible and includes protein, fresh fruits, and vegetables, grains, low-fat oils, and dairy products.
Start by visiting the produce department in your local supermarket or farm market. Buy fresh vegetables to use in salads and to cook as a side dish. This gives you plenty of choices as most supermarkets carry a wide variety of produce to choose from. Buy vegetables in season as they are usually less expensive and a better quality. Greens like spinach, Swiss chard, kale, and green leaf lettuce have plenty of vitamins and minerals. Try vegetables you never ate before like red cabbage or radicchio Raw vegetables are best for your diet but steamed or sauteed in oil are tasty and healthy too.
Add fresh fruits to the menu as a snack and dessert. Don’t eat too much fruit a few portion a day are good. Fruits have sugar which means calories. Use fresh fruit as a dessert instead of cakes, pies and cookies. That mid-afternoon hunger attack can be satisfied with a cup of low-fat yogurt and a banana cut up. Again seasonal produce is usually the best quality and price so shop carefully. Again there are many tropical fruits available so try some new varieties to add interest to your diet.
When taking any diet supplements check with your doctor to make sure they are safe. Eat lean meats, fish and poultry. Try to reduce your portion size from 6 ounces to 4 ounces. Remember that beans provide protein so add them to your diet. You can use beans to replace meat in some recipes. When preparing meals using more beans, rice, and vegetables is better than using too much meat and poultry. Eat low fat dairy products so your body can get the calcium without the calories. Whole grain breads like rye, whole wheat and pumpernickel are better for your health.
Moderate exercise like walking 30 or more minutes every day is easy way to start. Again check with your doctor especially if you have serious health issues. Other forms of exercise that are safe and healthy are biking, swimming and tennis. Do you like to exercise alone or with someone this often determines the type of exercise you will choose. So think carefully before you decide. A sensible diet and exercise are the best way to lose weight.
