Smoking happens to be one of the most distractive habits that a person could possibly pick up. I’m sure the great feeling you get when your all smoke up with nicotine in your bloodstream is no indication of just how bad this habit is. If smoking made you feel like throwing up, I wouldn’t have to be writing this article because throwing up is not everyone’s cup of coffee. So smoking has taken you through some of the best times and some of the low moments in your life. I get it; you have a good thing going on. But there comes a time in everyone’s life when they have to make a critical decision; this is one of those times.
There is no way you can think of going pro in bodybuilding when your still smoking packs everyday. Smoking will not only hinder your bodybuilding career from sky rocketing but it will harm your health tremendously! This is the one habit that damages nearly all of the body’s vital organs. It also increases your chances of getting lung cancer by a huge percentage and is also responsible for escalating your risk of getting other forms of cancer. It causes other major disease such as lung and heart disease, stroke and blood vessels diseases among other major complications most of which can be fatal. Nicotine is very addictive and it makes quitting cigarette smoking seem impossible but there is nothing that you can’t do if you put your mind to it.
The fact that you’re a bodybuilder means that this process should be easier for you. I know what it feels like to quit smoking for weeks and then one day this craving becomes too big and you end smoking even more packs than you did before you decided to quit it. You nee to start off on a clean slate, pretend that you’ve never failed at it and give yourself another go at it only this time, approach it from a different perspective. If you view smoking as this really huge devil fighting against you, chances are you will feel inadequate to fight it off. But, if you view it as just another craving for a certain food which you’re trying to quit, then you are halfway there.
Bodybuilding helps one develop a high degree of self discipline which is what you need to quit smoking. The same way you fight off the urge of binge eating on junk food is the same way you can fight this too. When you fight off these cravings, just like any other drug, your body will definitely suffer from withdrawal symptoms. One of these symptoms is depression which can be well controlled by bodybuilding. Working out releases endorphins which are feel good hormones into the body. They are sort of your body’s natural antidepressant. Even though you may fail at it every now and then, pick up where you left off and continue with the fight. Remember, this is a habit that is practically eating away your vital organs, quit while you still can!
