There have been many debates on the famous low carb, high fat diet. Some people have professed it is the best thing that could have happened to people who struggle with weight management while others will argue that it does not help people keep the weight off.

If you are focusing on getting your weight off quickly, Atkins delivers. What most people have found out though is that keeping the weight off is the struggle once coming off of the diet.

Here is where I get frustrated. The yo-yo dieting comes from people who do not realize that once you start a diet and get the results you were aiming for, you cannot go off of the diet and expect to maintain those results. Dieting, along with exercise, is a lifetime commitment. A lot of the debates on which diet works and which does and who is right and who is wrong would be over if more people were to wake up and realize this one simple fact.

As with any diet, it is not rocket science. It is actually fairly simple and it all boils down to common sense and logic, which sadly a lot of people are lacking. Any diet can work as long as you remember a few simple facts. No one diet is better than the other at achieving the end result.

You do not always have to strictly adhere to a diet if it does not make sense. What I mean by that is simple. Your body needs a healthy balance of everything. You cannot overdo one thing and cut way back on another. Such as in the Atkins diet, raising your carbs and lowering your fat intake is not only ludicrous, its unhealthy. What you are trying to do is balance out your diet by giving yourself the right proportions of each. The Atkins diet also claims that you do not have to worry about calories and you can eat as much as you want. Really? Sound too good to be true? Well it is.

Too much of anything is not a good thing. That right there is common sense. Just like the adverse diets that promote higher carb and lower fat content is really the way to go. Once again, it isn’t about raising 1 particular thing and trying to eliminate another as much as possible. It is all about balance. Where do you suppose the term “balanced diet” comes from and what it means? It comes from nutritionist and it means exactly what it says. Everyone needs just as much fat in their diet as carbs, along with protein and other nutrients.

I have re-emphasize that just because you start a diet thinking that once you get where you want to be, means that you can stop dieting. Certainly you can, but you can also expect to gain the weight right back.

If you are going to chose to diet, you will have to make yourself a commitment to do it for the rest of your life and remember, everything in moderation and balance.
