To recover from a habit of overeating, one needs to first tame the desires for food. A body builder who has falling prey to eating disorders, especially that go overboard in both amount and frequency, must first train the mind not to overemphasize the importance and need of food. Recovering from binge eating involves curbing a habit of excesses, both in thinking off and in consuming food.

A helpful step will involve preoccupying both the mind and the body with alternative activity at times when you tend to overeat. Ration your food to caloric considerations; see food only as calories not the amount in the food. After a while, with the right attitude, try to reduce the frequency of meals about two meals less per week. This will help you tone down the eating frequency to an optimum of five to six per day, ensuring that the caloric ingestion is on the optimal ratio.

Remove those snacks from the sitting room. The cookies jar should never enter the bedroom or sitting room. Stop going to hotels for a while, because this is where you see all the foods and incite your desires.
There is no cure for binge eating that is outside the mind and that is why you should emphasize on the mind to understand both the gains and importance of regulated eating habits. Avoid those occasional bites, snacks in between the meals and the momentary chewing type foods, since they add up to a lot of calories at the end of the day.

It is important that you set your meal times at specific times each day, so that your body can learn to expect food at only those specific time frames. That pattern will help train both the body and mind that food comes in only at such and such time of day. Occasionally, you will fall back to the episodic binge eating habits, but the idea is to keep on the go, despite some failures. You can also fashion out some ideal punishment for each time you eat more than you ought to. This punishment should however not be seen as a justification of overeating or eating out of schedule as long as you get the punishment done thereafter.

The punishment should also not be starvation, since after that punishment you will definitely eat more than idea. Rather, try some additional training, removal of a loved food diet from the diet for a few days or some track activity like jogging. These are better types of punishment for violating eating schedules. When we talk of faulting the eating schedule, it must be understood that it is not only overeating beyond the required amount that is harmful, but also eating less than prearranged.

When you eat less than is ideal according to the diet regimen, you are triggering back the very desires and cravings that had prompted you to be a binge eater. Denying the body the food will initiate a hormonal demonstration that will increase the craving for sugars, salt or fats. Consequently, you will soon fall back to overeating, the having mind switched back to the binge-eating mode. Never let your mind think that it is denied food. Rather let it be your attitude that you are eating enough, not more not less.
