Your Reasons For Smoking and Drinking – Why Those Aren’t Good Reasons For Your Health
By Dane C. Fletcher

There is a new vocabulary around town that very many people are hiding behind. No one will openly say that they are alcoholics. They refer to themselves as social drinkers. Same goes for smokers. They won’t describe themselves as chain smokers, just occasional smokers. Surprisingly enough, there are bodybuilders who not only smoke or drink; they actually do both of them. My question to them is this; do you enjoy working out for longer periods to get the results you could have gotten in almost a third of that time?
Truth of the matter is that you can tell which bodybuilder is living a healthy lifestyle and eating right. Not by doing some complicated test like an MRI, but by just simply looking at their physique. You can tell a person who smokes simply by looking at how easily they breathe after 10 minutes of cardio, assuming they can do 10 minutes. Ignorance is an expensive price to pay. It has led to loss of money, jobs, marriages, families and even lives. So the next time you get back to your destructive habit, don’t say that you didn’t know!
There are two aspects of bodybuilding that should by no means be compromised. The building and development of muscles, and personal discipline. Smoking and drinking practically thwarts both of them. They especially major in ensuring that your muscles don’t grow by a millimeter. This however should be the least of your concerns.
Drinking lowers the testosterone in your body. This in turn means that fat loss is reduced and therefore more of what you eat gets stored as fat. By the time your muscles are showing through your skin, they have gone through inches and inches of fat. On top of all that, the amount of calories in alcohol is nearly twice the amount in proteins and carbohydrates. The only difference is that these are empty calories which the body uses as energy meaning that the other fat that wont get a chance to be burned will end up somewhere around your tummy.
Now let’s look at how worse the situation gets when you combine this with smoking. To get energy, your body needs to burn fat. To burn fat your body needs oxygen. When you smoke, tar coats your respiratory tract. Thus, you’re breathing becomes compromised. Also smoking reduces the elasticity of your lungs, this also limits the amount of air that you take in. the smoke that comes from cigarettes is full of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is much easier to absorb that oxygen. This means that it occupies most of the room in hemoglobin that was ideally meant for oxygen.
Drinking, stores up fat in your body while smoking simply ensures that it stays there. As I said earlier, the excessive fat deposits should be the least of your worries. Let me shed more light as to what you should brace yourself for. The list begins: lung cancer, other forms of cancer, miscarriages, bronchitis, pneumonia, diabetes and heart disease among others. Some of these diseases become hereditary so for the sake of your family…
