The Best Way To Train Your Calves Print E-mail

ImageQ:  What’s the best way to train calves, with a lot of reps or a lot of weight or a lot of both?

A:  Well if you figure it out, please let me know.  Truth is calf development is probably the most elusive of all because what works for one person doesn’t for another.  Calf work is a true “feeling” type of workout.  Intensity is sometimes hard to create during a calf workout because the calves will pump and then all of a sudden lose it. Also, it’s hard to feel isolative movements when the muscle is super-pumped. And calves definitely get “super-pumped” almost like no other muscle. They can also be painful to train, IMO. Biceps and calves are both painful at times. You have to think of variety, varying weight, varying rep and sets schemes and the number of times you train them. They also really benefit from super sets and from change.  Basically, I’ve listed everything you can do for any muscle. But for calves, this is essential.
